During the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference action the Rockets went 1-1, losing 2-1 to Kent State on a 82nd minute goal, then earning a 2-1 win over Ohio on Sunday. Junior captain has scored in three consecutive matches, while senior netted her team-leading fifth goal on Sunday.
'I thought our team battled,' said Toledo head coach. 'We've just got to keep improving and getting better so we are ready to go on the road this weekend.' Akron (3-6-1, 0-1-1 MAC) payed a visit to 2016 MAC regular season champion Ball State on Sunday and lost a close contest, 1-0. The Zips are led by freshman Chloe Allen who has five goals, and senior Sarah Sivic has three of her own. Between the posts for Akron is Annabelle Hageman.
The senior has 42 saves, allowed 16 goals in 910 minutes played. Buffalo (3-5-2, 0-2-0 MAC) fell short in its last match against East Division foe Miami, 1-0, on Sunday.
The Bulls outshot the opponent 12-9, but none could find the back of the net. Sophomore Carissima Cutrona, UB's leading scorer, has found the net six times this season, while Junior Julia Benta has scored twice. Junior keeper Laura Dougall has 37 saves during her 695 minutes of action. 'I think both teams this weekend are really good teams,' continued Buchholz. 'The fact that their winless in the conference is misleading because they're both strong teams.
We're going to have to be good on both days.' After this weekend the Rockets return home to Scott Park on Thursday, Oct. 6th to battle their first West Division foe, Central Michigan, at 4:00 p.m.
